The Synopsis:
My Lenovo laptop has dual storage drives. A primary Samsung SSD with Windows installation and a secondary HDD storage device.
During boot, Windows was failing to recognize my boot drive and showing the error ‘A required device isn’t connected or can’t be accessed’.
I booted into the BIOS menu and changed the boot drive priority to my main drive. However, that did not fix the issue. That said, if I booted into the boot manager by pressing the F12 key and then manually select the Samsung drive as a boot drive, the PC would boot into Windows without any error.
This is a temporary fix as the error would creep in after every restart or even when waking up from the hibernation mode.
I was able to resolve the error by repairing the MBR (Master Boot Record) by executing the FixMbr command through the recovery menu.

How do I fix the Your PC device needs to be repaired – 0xc000000f error code?
Check if you can boot into Windows from Boot Manager
Make sure the computer is shutdown. Press and hold the Power button to turn off the system.
Once shutdown, press the power button and then start pressing the F12/F11/ESC key to start the Boot Manager.
In the Boot Option menu, press the down arrow key to navigate to your Boot Drives.
Select the drive that has the Windows installation and hit enter. Wait for your computer to boot into Windows.
Booting into Windows 10 can help you in multiple ways. Try creating a Windows 10 bootable flash drive if you don’t have one already as it will help you move forward with other troubleshooting steps.
If you boot into Windows successfully, try changing the boot priority in BIOS to see if that fixes the error permanently
Change boot drive in BIOS
Shutdown your computer.
Press the power button and then start pressing the F2 key to bring up the boot menu.
In the Boot menu, navigate to the Boot tab.
Using the down/up arrow keys, select your Windows installation drive.
Press F6 to move it up the order.
Press F10 to save changes and exit.
Wait for your computer to reboot and check if the error is resolved.
1. Run Startup Repair
Without an Installation media
To run Startup Repair we need a bootable Windows installation media to open the Recovery menu. However, if you were able to boot into Windows successfully earlier, you can run Startup Repair without the installation media as well.
Click on Start and select Settings.
Next, click on Update and Recovery.
Open the Recovery tab from the left pane.
Under Advanced startup, click the Restart now button.
Click on Restart Anyways if prompted, and wait for the system to resart.
Under Choose an Option, click on Troubleshoot.
Select Advanced Options.
Click on Startup Repair.
Windows will try to repair any issues that is preventing Windows from booting normally.
However, if you see the Recovery – Your PC/Device needs to be repaired again, move to the second step.
Run Startup Repair with Windows installation media
If you are unable to boot into Windows, you need to create Windows 10 bootable flash drive. Once you have the bootable flash drive ready, proceed with the steps below.
Make sure your system is off.
Insert the bootable USB flash drive into your computer.
Press the power button and start pressing F12 to open the boot manager.
In the Boot Options Menu, use the down arrow keys and select USB flash drive as the boot drive and hit enter.
In the Windows installation screen, click Next and then click on Repair your computer option.
Click on Troubleshooter under Choose an Option.
Click on Startup Repair
Wait for the Startup repair to fix any issues. However, if it fails to repair the problem and the error persists, follow the next step to repair the Master Boot Recorder (MBR).
2. Use Command Prompt to fix boot records
The Your PC device needs to be repaired 0xc000000f error code error can occur if your boot recorders are corrupted or missing. You can rebuild the boot recorders by using a simple command prompt command.

Once all the commands are executed, type exit and hit enter.
Even if you see an error for the last two commands, exit and restart your computer.
You may also want to make sure the boot priority is set correctly in BIOS. To do this, press the Power button to restart the computer and start pressing the F2 keys to bring up the BIOS menu.
Open the Boot tab using the arrow keys.
Under Legacy, make sure your boot drive is first on the priority list. You can change the values by pressing F5/F6 on your keyboard.
Press F10 to save the changes and exit.
Restart the computer and check if the Your PC device needs to be repaired – 0xc000000f error code is resolved.
3. Reset Windows 10
If the issue persists, even after repairing the boot manager try resetting your computer to fix the error.
Note that resetting the computer will remove apps and files depending on what kind of reset you choose. Make sure to create a list of installed apps on your computer before proceeding with Windows 10 reset.
If you can boot into Windows 10, do the following.
Click Start and select Settings.
Go to Update and Security.
Click on Recovery.
Click Get Started under Reset this PC.
Click on Keep my Files.
Next, select how you want to reinstall Windows. Select Local Reinstall.
Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your computer.
If everything goes right, Windows will boot successfully without the error and you should have your files intact.
As a last resort, try clean installing Windows. Cleaning installing Windows will delete all the files in the installation drive, so make sure to create a backup.
4. Clean install Windows
Shutdown your computer.
Insert the USB flash drive and then boot into BIOS by pressing F2 during restart.
In the Boot tab, set the USB flash drive as a priority drive.
Press F10 to save the changes and exit.
The PC will boot from your installation media and show the Windows installation screen.
Click Next and then Install to proceed.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 10.
Once Windows 10 is installed, enter BIOS again and change the boot priority to your Windows installation drive from USB flash drive.
Restart the computer and check for any improvements.
